To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! How dare you turn my Father’s house into a market!” (John 2:16)

The church is not a business.  If not very careful, budgets and salaries and loans can make us seem more like what happens in the kingdoms of the world than the kingdom of God.

Pay attention and listen to the sayings of the wise; apply your heart to what I teach … (Proverbs 22:17)

Listen to Godly people.  Pay attention to what wise people say.  Put their teaching in your mind and in your heart.

Greet also the church that meets at their house. Greet my dear friend Epenetus, who was the first convert to Christ in the province of Asia. (Romans 16:5)

We do not know much about the congregation that met in the home of Priscilla and Aquila.  Nor do we know much about the story of Epenetus.  But they were heroes of the early church.  Your story may not be well known, but be assured that your story is known and celebrated in heaven.

… but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. (Matthew 24:13)

Never stop believing.  No matter what Satan throws at you, stay faithful.  Because in the end you will be saved.

His name was Nabal and his wife’s name was Abigail. She was an intelligent and beautiful woman, but her husband, a Calebite, was surly and mean in his dealings. (I Samuel 25:3)

One of the great things about reading the Bible is that you realize it is about real people.  We have all known couples like this.  The Bible.  A real book written by a real God about real people who live in a real world.

“As for us, the Lord is our God, and we have not forsaken him. The priests who serve the Lord are sons of Aaron, and the Levites assist them. (II Chronicles 13:10)

Follow the Lord your God.  Even if it is not popular, and even if others insist you can do as you please.  Stay faithful.

And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, … (Mark 9:47)

It is radical surgery for your soul.  Do whatever it takes to drive sin from your life.  What do you need to cut out of your life to follow Jesus more closely?  Do it.

… and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection of the dead. (Philippians 3:11)

I cannot really understand the power of God to raise someone from the dead.  But I believe He raised Jesus.  And I believe He will raise me.  My goal is to attain that resurrection.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

We should be going all over the world.  We should be going into our world.  And our job when we go is to be witnesses to what God has done through Jesus.  Witness powerfully.

Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked, “You of little faith, why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread? (Matthew 16:8)

It is so hard to focus on the deeper, more important things of life.  The disciples were focused on what they were going to eat.  Jesus wanted them to focus on those who taught what was not true.  Jesus will provide what you need to live.  Focus on how to live.
