For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how orderly you are and how firm your faith in Christ is. (Colossians 2:5)

Christians are always connected to each other because of our faith in Christ.  Now and forever.

“But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began to contradict what was spoken by Paul, reviling him.” (Acts 13:45)

Don’t let envy run your life! Don’t make decisions based on emotions, especially negative ones. Don’t oppose people merely because they have more success than you.

Focus on God. Do what’s right. Bless your neighbors, don’t curse them.

Seek the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable.

Now reform your ways and your actions and obey the Lord your God. Then the Lord will relent and not bring the disaster he has pronounced against you. (Jeremiah 26:13)

These words from Jeremiah to the nation of Israel should also give us hope as individuals.  Change your ways and actions and obey God.  You will avoid disaster that way.

“In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” (Judges 21:25)

So ends one of the saddest books in the Bible. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes. What a recipe for disaster!

All because Israel didn’t realize that there actually was a King over their country. God is, was, and always will be the King.

Let us recognize the same thing. Stop doing what seems right to you; look to do what God says is right. He is King. When we do what He says, everything will be better.

And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. (I Corinthians 15:14)

The cross where Jesus died is central to our faith and hope.  But that death would mean nothing if not for the resurrection.  That is also the center of our faith and hope.

At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. (John 20:14)

Don’t be too hard on Mary for not recognizing Jesus after his resurrection.   Sometimes we don’t recognize him either.  Look for Jesus in action.

“The LORD grant that you may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband!” (Ruth 1:9)

Rest. It’s a wonderful thing. To rest is to be at peace. It’s to be renewed and restored.

The Bible talks about God giving His people rest in the place He is preparing. It’s a great thing to look forward to.

Jesus said, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

When Arioch, the commander of the king’s guard, had gone out to put to death the wise men of Babylon, David spoke to him with wisdom and tact. (Daniel 2:14)

That is a great lesson for all of us.  Use wisdom and tact when speaking, even in the face of danger.

“And he said with a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.”” (Revelation 14:7)

The Bible calls this “the eternal gospel.” How can judgment be good news? Think about the last time you watched a movie where the bad guy got away unpunished. It wasn’t very satisfying, was it? We want to see justice enacted. It’s good news to know that God will judge this world, that He will reward the righteous and punish the ungodly.

So fear Him. Give Him glory. He is the Creator and the only just Judge.
