Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. (I Peter 3:9)

We Christians are called to a higher standard than the world.  Bless people, even those who do evil to you.

“Now appoint for us a king to judge us like all the nations.”” (1 Samuel 8:5)

The desire to be like everybody else is strong. In that case, when Israel asked for a king, it meant that they were rejecting God and His rule over them.

Don’t try to be like everyone else. Try to be like Jesus!

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19)

Follow Jesus.  When you do that, you will fish for men.  That was his mission.  It is our mission.

“O LORD, how manifold are your works! In wisdom have you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.” (Psalms 104:24)

The next time that you marvel at the wonders of nature, remember that you’re actually noticing the wisdom of God’s creation. It’s not Mother Nature… it’s Father God!

“Paul said, “Brothers, I have lived my life before God in all good conscience up to this day.”” (Acts 23:1)

Paul had lived his life with a clean conscience. He had always acted in utmost sincerity.

And he had been very, very wrong. He had persecuted God’s church, killing and imprisoning Christians. He had blasphemed Jesus’ name.

A clean conscience doesn’t mean that we’re right with God. It only means that we’re right with ourselves. Sometimes we need to learn more about what God wants from us in order to be right with Him.

Do everything without complaining or arguing… (Philippians 2:14)

It is not just about your actions, but also your attitude.

“The LORD repay you for what you have done, and a full reward be given you by the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge!” (Ruth 2:12)

Don’t you love that image, the one of taking refuge under the wings of the Lord? I think of a baby bird seeking protection and finding it in the mother bird. Our God wants us to look to Him for shelter from the storms of life.

Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place.” (John 18:36)

Our citizenship is not in any kingdom in this world.  Pledge your allegiance to the kingdom greater than any country of this world.

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.” (Psalms 1:1–2)

Rather than listening to foolish people or following the ways of this world, we should study and think about what God has said to us in the Bible.
