“Come now, let us reason together,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. (Isaiah 1:18)

God wants you to understand what he is offering you.  Your sins and their stain will be gone.  You can be as white as wool.

“And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”” (1 Kings 19:12–13)

Elijah looked for God in the big things: earthquake, fire, wind. And he couldn’t find Him. Instead, God came to Elijah in the form of a small, still voice.

And God’s question is one He puts to all of us: “What are you doing here?” We often want to ask God that question, but He asks us to look at ourselves and evaluate what we’re doing. Are we trying to do what God wants? Or are we focused on our own things?

Elijah couldn’t see God’s work all around him; I’m often the same way. I need to stop, listen for God’s whisper, and evaluate where I am and what I’m doing.

“Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.” (Psalms 150:6)

Who should praise God? Everyone and everything.

It’s a fitting end to the book of Psalms. It’s a fitting guideline for everyday living. Make it all about praising God.

For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery… (Mark 7:21)

The list of sins goes on from this, but here is the point.  Sin is not an action or thought issue.  It is a heart issue.  Defeating sin in our lives starts with a heart check-up.

But among the Israelites not a dog will bark at any man or animal. Then you will know that the Lord makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel. (Exodus 11:7)

God does treat his own people differently than those who do not know Him.  Be sure you are one of His.

“But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, … (Luke 6:27)

Easy to understand but hard to do.  Are you listening to Jesus?

“Salvation belongs to the LORD; your blessing be on your people!” (Psalms 3:8)

It is God who will save us in the end. Not our good works. Not some human army or earthly government. God, and God alone.

I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.” (Luke 13:5)

Everyone of us will sin.  Do what we should not.  Not do what we should.  Recognize you sin and repent.  If you do not repent, you will perish.
