“The men of Israel sampled their provisions but did not inquire of the LORD. Then Joshua made a treaty of peace with them to let them live, and the leaders of the assembly ratified it by oath.” (Joshua 9:14–15)

The Israelites were fooled into making a treaty they shouldn’t have made. The dream of them fully possessing the Promised Land died that day. All because they didn’t ask God before doing something very important.

Take some time to pray before making a big decision. You won’t regret it.

Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable. (Matthew 13:34)

Jesus used stories to teach people about the Kingdom of God.  It is still an easy and effective way to share Jesus.  Try it.

“Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.” (Psalms 141:3)

If we were writing this today, we might add, “Protect my fingers from typing things they shouldn’t”!

We all need to watch what we say; why not ask God to help you do just that?

He will cause deceit to prosper, and he will consider himself superior. When they feel secure, he will destroy many and take his stand against the Prince of princes. Yet he will be destroyed, but not by human power. (Daniel 8:25)

There are many things confusing about Daniel’s vision.  But one thing is certain.  No one can stand against Jesus, the Prince of princes.  That is still true today.

“And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid. But many of the older priests and Levites and family heads, who had seen the former temple, wept aloud when they saw the foundation of this temple being laid, while many others shouted for joy.” (Ezra 3:11–12)

If we focus too much on the past, we can miss wonderful things that are happening right before our eyes. Those who had seen the previous temple could only cry because the new temple was nothing compared to that one. They couldn’t recognize that ANY temple was better than no temple at all.

Don’t miss out. Appreciate the past, but don’t dwell on it.

Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and hive to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” (Mark 10:21)

Sometimes hard and difficult things have to be said.  Just be sure they are said because you love the person.  Jesus looked him in the eyes and the love was evident.

“The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the LORD tests the heart.” (Proverbs 17:3)

People will look at what we do and hear what we say. They will make judgments based on those things.

God will look at our heart. We can’t fool Him nor be misjudged by Him. God looks at our heart.

When Pharoah saw that the rain and hail and thunder had stopped, he sinned again: He and his officials hardened their hearts. (Exodus 9:34)

So many of us do the exact same thing.  When the consequences of our sin go away, our heart turns back to sin.  Turn your heart to God.

“He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God.” (Psalms 50:23)

Thank offerings were special offerings done to show appreciation for what God has done. Basically, this verse is saying that if we want God to work in our lives, we need to show gratitude for the things that He does.

In spite of this, you did not trust in the Lord your God… (Deuteronomy 1:32)

Just like the people of Israel, we see what the Lord has done and yet still do not trust him to take care of us.  He always has, and He always will.
