“During his lifetime Absalom had taken a pillar and erected it in the King’s Valley as a monument to himself, for he thought, “I have no son to carry on the memory of my name.” He named the pillar after himself, and it is called Absalom’s Monument to this day.” (2 Samuel 18:18)

How sad to have to build a monument to yourself! Absalom doubted that anyone else would honor him, so he tries to honor himself.

That never works.

The only honor that is worth seeking is the honor that comes from God. Don’t seek honor for yourself. Don’t worry about what others think of you. Focus on how God sees you and how you worship Him.
