Joash was a good king in a lot of ways. But this episode showed a tremendous lack of faith. Rather than trust in God’s protection, he leaned on money to buy his way out of trouble. By doing so, he saved himself, but ruined the future of his country.

Fear makes us do a lot of things. It can lead us to depend on riches or military strength or powerful governments. What we need to do is rely on God.
