Part 1 : Short Answer Questions

1. Jesus says that there are reasons for rejoicing when you experience persecution, blame, or ill treatment for being a Christian. Name some of these reasons (Matthew 5:10-11).

Part 2 : Personal Reflection Questions

1. Read Matthew 7:7-11 carefully. Do you consider yourself to be a seeker? Do you hunger and thirst for righteousness (Matthew 5:6)? Write about your life as a seeker.
SAMPLE ANSWER: Yes, I do hunger and thirst for righteousness. But, I have a hard time living like a Christian. Some of Jesus’ teachings are so hard for me to follow, like loving my enemies. There are some people who have hurt me, and it doesn’t seem fair that I have to love them. Do I really have to feel love towards these people to love them like Jesus? Please help me in this area. I really want to follow Christ.

2. Make a list of major “crossroads” or “forks” in your spiritual journey. Have you ever taken the “road less traveled” or the “narrow road”? When? What happened as a result of your choice?

3. The Lord’s Prayer (also called the “Disciples’ Prayer” appears in Matthew 6:9-13. Pray this prayer several times throughout the week. How does this model prayer affect your view of God, yourself, and others?

4. What do you do if you do not think you have the strength to make the changes that God is calling you to make?

a. Where does the power come from to make changes?

b. How does God’s grace and Spirit help us (Ephesians 2:1-22, 2 Timothy 1:7)?
